The Reunion Corporation has been created for the benefit of that portion of the Farrar line descended from Joseph Vernon Farrar, Sr. (6/10/1903 - 6/28/1983) and and his wife Viola Lillian Schwend (7/25/1904 - 11/4/1954) and their families, relatives and friends.

RECENT CHANGES AND ADDITIONS:

Our 45th reunion was held over the weekend of June 13th/14th, 2022 and was very well attended!  Below is a letter from our Reunion President, Doug Williams, regarding our 45th reunion.

(Note; it was voted on at the 45th reunion that we will have a reunion next June, 2023.  And at each future reunion we will vote to have one the following year or to skip the following year).

Hello Farrar family and friends,

The time has come for us to gather again. For the 45th year, we will celebrate the Farrar in all of us with family unity and comradery.
It will be so great to see everyone again and to celebrate our family the best way we know how
- with card games and laughter.

With the spring comes the vitality and energy of a new season and new opportunities. Join us in Arkansas to celebrate the vitality and energy of knowing your
extended family and pass on this tradition to the next generations (and teach them that the early bird gets the good pieces of bacon).

After two years of Covid uncertainties and concerns I hope everyone has found their comfort zone and is getting back in the game.
I would like to thank, on behalf of the entire family, those who serve and who have served their communities on the front line helping those affected.
There are many nurses, doctors, EMTs and essential workers among us who are doing their duty to make a difference for others. Thank you.

The 45th year Farrar Family Reunion will take place June 11-13. Of course, anyone is welcome to stay longer if they wish.
This will be the first reunion held the week prior to Father's Day instead of on Father's Day weekend as in the past.
This change was made at the last reunion meeting in hope of cooler weather and to avoid other commitments.
It used to be we came to the reunion because that
s where our fathers were. Now as our family tree branches grow farther from the trunk there are
a lot more fathers to consider on Father's Day. I hope this is a positive change for everyone.

One of the items on the agenda for this year is to discuss and vote on reunion frequency going forward. It was proposed at the last business meeting
that we no longer meet each year. One proposal is to meet 3 out of 5 years since our 5 year anniversaries are our best attended reunions, which could look something like this:

2022: 45 year Farrar Family Reunion.
2023:
No reunion.

2024: Reunion.
2025: No reunion.
2026:
Reunion. Plan 50th.

2027: 50 year Farrar Family Reunion.

Other ideas include various locations, meet only every 5th year, different activities, rendezvous, etc. We would love to hear any ideas and input.
If you can
t make it this year, but have a great idea, please forward it to myself or any officer and it will get heard.

Our family reunion is a remarkable achievement. The original 10, our parents, grandparents, great grandparents and even great great grandparents
laid the groundwork for a reunion that would continue long after they were gone. It is up to us to honor their wish by continuing to work together to make family meals,
catch crawdads in the creek, and tell stories by the campfire. For a family to celebrate 45 years of reunions is awesome, rarely achieved and commendable.
So take part a little or a lot, but take part, and help make your Farrar reunion something no one wants to miss.

Please say a prayer for those among us fighting illness.

Give a word of thanks for all who serve so others are safe.

Doug Williams

President Farrar Family Reunion

Joseph V. Farrar, Jr. passed away at his home in Riverside County, California on December 28th, 2010 (wow, it's been over ten years already).
Joseph, the oldest son of Joseph V. Farrar, Sr. and Viola (Schwend) Farrar, assumed the duties of family Patriarch
when Joseph, Sr.  passed away in 1983.  Joseph, Jr. was a tireless promoter of the Farrar Family Reunion.
He supported and attended all of the 30+ reunions and organized two 'Rendezvous' at Farrar's Island in Virginia,
one in 1997 and one that was impacted by events of 911 in September of 2001. (read more about these two events at THIS LINK).
You can visit Joseph's memorial page and sign the guest book by clicking on THIS LINK, and read the newsletter article on page
three of the April, 2011 Farrar Family Newsletter at THIS LINK.

We visited ancestors buried in the Old Flatcreek Cemetery located in Flatcreek Tennessee.  The  cemetery isn’t maintained and it is very overgrown (not something we can understand given the fact so many Farrar’s with ancestors in this cemetery reside in the area).  Additional information will be posted and the link page expanded as time permits.  You can view the information at this link.

Directions to Farrar's Island:  You can locate directions to Farrar's Island on the web page of the City of Henricus Historical Park web page.  Once there, click on 'directions' under the title and following the instructions.     I have also placed a Mapquest map of Farrar's Island here which you can adjust and print for reference.  You will need to zoom in to see the island, now Henricus Historical Park (
Latitude: 37.375,  Longitude: -77.370).

Information about the Farrar family coat of arms at the link indicated.  The information comes from Holmes first book (more information on Holmes book offer page).  The information includes a description of the colors of the coat of arms and there also is a translation of that description..
